What to Expect

When choosing a destination for your backpacking trip, it is important to consider the level of difficulty of the trail and the weather conditions. Some popular backpacking destinations include national parks, wilderness areas, and mountain ranges. It is also important to obtain any necessary permits and to be aware of any regulations or rules for the area you plan to visit.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Antananarivo - Reserve Peyrieras - Andasibe

8:00 AM you will be picked up at hotel by our English-speaking guide then head to Andasibe to start your wonderful two-day journey to see some of the best wildlife and scenery.

10:30AM stop by Reserve Peyrieras (duration:1.5hrs), you will find the unique reptiles of Madagascar, including the largest chameleons, butterflies, snakes, frogs, crocodiles, and more.

Reserve Peyrieras :This reserve was established in the late 20th century by French entomologist and naturalist André Peyrieras, hence it is named “Peyrieras Reserve”. Here, over 20 species of chameleons live, including the largest king chameleon, the smallest micro chameleon, the king of camouflage the carpet chameleon, the chameleon sensitive to sound the elephant ear chameleon, and so on. You can also observe various geckos, lizards (leaf-tailed lizards, golden-backed lizards, etc.), insects, amphibians and frogs.

14:00PM Arrival at Andasibe hotel, take a good rest.

17:45PM In the evening, we will follow the guide to search for nocturnal lemurs, tree frogs and other nocturnal creatures in the Andasibe rainforest.

Andasibe is one of the five earliest established nature reserves in Madagascar and is also one of the most visited national parks. The complete tropical rainforest ecosystem provides an excellent habitat for a large number of rare animals and plants, including 11 species of lemurs (the most famous of which is the Indri lemur, the largest among all lemurs and the only short-tailed lemur, currently only found in this area and so far, there has never been a successful example of human captivity). The reserve is rich in species, including some rare and unique birds, amphibians, reptiles, such as chameleons, etc., which are also very fascinating.

Day 2 - Andasibe - Antananarivo

07:00AM enjoy the breakfast at hotel

8:00AM head to Lemur Island (30mins driving time)

08:30AM explore Lemur Island (1.5hrs), you can get up close to the lemurs and enjoy feeding them. then visit Crocodile Valley (1 hour),You can see wild crocodiles, experience slippery trails and “dangerous” suspension bridges, bringing you a thrilling and exciting experience of exploring the primeval rainforest.

Lemur Island, there are 5 species of wild lemurs being kept, including the brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus), the ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta or Maki), the dancing lemur (Propithecus sifaka), and the “panda lemur” (variegata), etc. What’s most wonderful is that these lemurs have become accustomed to human kindness. You can enjoy the pleasure of having close contact with the lemurs and feeding them.

Crocodile Valley is located in a deep valley. Here, wild African Nile crocodiles are raised. The Nile crocodile is the largest crocodile in Africa and is the one among all crocodile species that has been most extensively studied by humans. They mainly inhabit the Nile River Basin and southeastern regions of Africa as well as Madagascar. The charm of Crocodile Valley goes beyond just allowing visitors to observe wild crocodiles. The slippery paths and “dangerous” suspension bridges offer visitors an exciting and thrilling experience of exploring the primitive rainforest.

10:00AM track lemurs at Mitsinjo Reserve, You can watch Madagasar’s largest lemur-the Indri.
